Hi, I’m Jason, AKA the Traveling Twiget and I love to travel. I’m going to let my geek out a little, but I blame my wander lust on Star Trek: The Next Generation. Every week I would watch Picard and crew explore strange new worlds, and seek out new life and new civilizations. I think it’s probably going to be awhile before space travel is so easily achieved though. Just because I can’t travel around the galaxy at warp speed doesn’t mean I cant explore strange new places and seek out new people.
I joined the US Navy two weeks after I turned 18. After about a year and a half in school I finally got my first opportunity to travel overseas. I was given orders to travel to Naples Italy to meet my ship, the USS San Jacinto (CG-56) for my first deployment. I got to Naples a week before my ship did, with literally just the clothes on my back. The airline lost my baggage before I ever left the US.
Over the last couple of decades I’ve traveled to 45 states in the US and 22 countries on 4 continents. The vast majority of my over seas travel has been work related. Even so, I had a great time during my travels.
It is time to travel on my own schedule though. The purpose of this blog is to chronicle my travels as I travel from New Mexico to the Arctic Circle in Alaska then turn south just about as far as south goes, to the southern tip of South America. From there, who knows?
